The Tiger Boxer RS as Second Motorcycle

ArticlesWhile my regular motorcycle, an 650cc sport-bike, its powerful and capable – but for commute, which often includes 10 to 15 kilometers of super-tight Bangkok traffic. Powerful be damned, I need something comfortable, nimble and light, preferably something exciting and definitely not an high revving engine, it need lots of torque at low rpm... That would be perfect for riding in tight traffic. The Tiger Boxer 250 RS seems to fit those definitions.

The Tiger Boxer 250 RS is powered by a low-revving 232cc engine, which produces a lot of low-rpm-torque. I'd spent enough time on the Tiger 250 RS to know it was the right machine for the job. Now after a few months on the Tiger Boxer 250 RS, my impression remains positive. While not as fast as some other 250cc class motorcycles, it has loads of power and surprisingly nimble handling. In fact, I've been having so much fun on the Tiger Boxer 250 RS that I wore out the stock IRC tires in less then 5,000 kilometers. A fresh set of Dunlop tires has been spooned on, and my goal is to shag them even more quickly, maybe with some time on a proper race track.

Negative points? Not too many so far. The stock IRC tires are, to say it nicely, no match for the new Dunlop tires. The mirrors are only marginally functional, especially above 110km/h. The ergonomics, while surely not awful, could use some adjustment to accommodate my 195cm body – I'm thinking a new set of handlebars to replace the stock bars, also I going to look into redoing my seat – all this will set me back just another 500 to 1,000 Baht.

The aftermarket hasn't warmed up to the Tiger Boxer 250 RS yet, so factory-direct seems to be the only option. Tiger Motorcycle's has a sport kit available, which will improve the performance considerable. Thankfully, Tiger Motorcycle is a service minded company, and all requests and answer are answered quickly. So stay tuned to see how the future of this Tiger Boxer 250 RS works out...
